Who looks after your data
Tuneread, the app and this website, is made and run by Roman Mastalir, Company ID (IČO) 75826615, Kubešova 2623/2, 612 00 Brno-Královo Pole, Czech Republic (“we” below). For anything about your data, write to roman@tuneread.com.
The app
- No account, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
- Your library stays on your iPhone: the articles you add, where you are in each one, and the audio made from them. Deleting the app deletes them.
- The voices run on your iPhone. The text you listen to is never sent to a speech server.
- To get an article, the app downloads its page from the site it's on, the way a browser does. That site sees your IP address, as it would in a browser.
- For X posts, the app asks FxTwitter (api.fxtwitter.com), an open-source service, and if it doesn't answer, our own copy of it at x.tuneread.com, run on Cloudflare. They see which post was asked for and your IP address. We keep no logs of these requests.
- The voices are downloaded once, from Hugging Face and GitHub, which see your IP address like any download.
- Pro is bought through Apple. We never see your name or payment details; Apple only tells the app whether Pro is unlocked.
AI in Tuneread
- The voices are synthetic: the speech is made by AI text-to-speech models (Kokoro for English, Supertonic for the other languages) running on your iPhone, or by Apple's built-in voices. They read the article's text as it's written; nothing is summarised or rewritten.
- Audio files you export from Tuneread say in their details (metadata) that the speech is machine-generated.
- Tuneread was built with the help of Claude Code, Anthropic's AI coding assistant.
This website
tuneread.com sets no cookies and has no analytics. It runs on Cloudflare, which handles your IP address to deliver the pages and keep the site safe.
The beta sign-up
- What: your email address, nothing else.
- Why: to email you the TestFlight link for the beta, then when Tuneread is in the App Store and about big updates (rarely). We don't share it or sell it.
- On what basis: your consent, which you give by signing up (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).
- Who helps: Resend keeps the list and sends the emails for us, and Cloudflare, which runs this site, keeps a note of when your beta invite went out. Both are companies in the United States; transfers of your data outside the EU are covered by the standard contractual clauses in our data processing agreements with them (GDPR Article 46).
- For how long: until you unsubscribe, with the link in every email, or ask us to remove you.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, and have it corrected, deleted, restricted or handed over to you; you can object, and take back your consent at any time. Write to the address above. If you think we've got something wrong, you can complain to the Czech data protection authority, Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů (uoou.gov.cz).
Changes
If any of this changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
